A striking skyline view and wrapping terrace dominate this 38th floor penthouse in Chelsea. In this renovation, the kitchen was opened up and made into a deceptive conversation piece: a volumetric maple cabinet floats in front of a glass enclosed chaise through a faceted custom Corian island. Corian and white lacquer panels reflect the sky into the apartment. The airy feeling is grounded by the owner’s touches of crimson, persimmon, and cobalt furniture, lighting fixtures, and art. A minimal height light shelf at the walnut study conceals overhead light. Thin floating metal book shelves by the windows avoids blocking views. A top lit niche of blue and green Bisazza tiles bring color to the bathroom. Another niche wraps into the bedroom, this time clad in walnut.
